CAS & DJ Mag present DJ Shadow’s “Endtroducing…”

CAS is starting midweek, mid-month sessions curated by some of our favourite mags, writers, record shops and DJs. Grab a beer and pizza afterwork and listen to a great album. Our first session is co-hosted by DJ Magazine who will present a seminal trip hop classic.

CAS NYC’s Massive Attack ‘Blue Lines’ Musical Lead-Up

Here is the low-down on the records Jason Kincade played in the musical lead-up to our Massive Attack "Blue Lines" New York session.

The Story of Prince and the Revolution ‘Purple Rain’

Wendy Melvoin (of The Revolution and later Wendy & Lisa) refers to the album as "a new beginning. Purple, the sky at dawn; rain, the cleansing factor."

The Story of The KLF ‘Chill Out’

"Chill Out" is the seminal ambient house album that was the brainchild of former Timelords and Justified Ancients of Mu Mu, Bill Drummond and Jimmy Cauty. It is a concept album that sounds like the soundtrack of a road trip along the US Gulf Coast from Texas to Louisiana with a few pit stops along the way.

Tim Rushent on Martin Rushent

“Music is the closest thing we have to real magic. Sometimes it comes easy … sometimes it takes a little bit more time and a lot more patience. Both these albums were a labour of love for Dad."

The Story of Human League “Dare” and “Love and Dancing”

“Dare” was the first album recorded with the new Human League line-up and catapulted the band into pop success. Thee band’s roots were more avant-garde and experimental as evidenced on their first two albums “Reproduction” and “Travelogue”.

The Story of Primal Scream “Screamadelica”

It’s the 20th anniversary (already?) of the release of this seminal album which fused together acid house, psychedelic soul and good ole rock n’ roll. This is the album that elevated Primal Scream onto a mainstream level and became the soundtrack to our lives for a period of time and with good reason.

The Story of Grace Jones “Nightclubbing”

This is definitely my favourite Grace Jones album as not only does it include the fantastic Flash and the Pan and Iggy Pop covers but it also features my favourite ever Grace Jones song, “I’ve Done It Again”, which I believe is about reincarnation.
