Having recorded over 90 solo albums there’s no doubt Rick Wakeman knows what it takes to record a classic. Here, it looks back at some of his favourites ahead of our event with him Rick Wakeman ‘Go Out There’ at The Royal Albert Hall on Monday July 2nd 2018.
“A Night At The Opera… Queen… pure genius… you occasionally get a group of musicians together who are greater than the sum of the parts. Queen are the greatest example of this.”
“Shades of Deep Purple… from 1968… an album way ahead of its time… some pioneering playing here from Jon Lord and Ritchie Blackmore and of course Ian Paice.”
“1969 release… also issued under different names… it contains the song Wild Eyed Boy From Freecloud which is one of my favourite songs of all time and for me a forerunner to Life on Mars.”
