This October, CAS is celebrating the 20th anniversary of one of the most significant hip hop albums: A Tribe Called Quest ‘Midnight Marauders’
Along with De La Soul, Jungle Brothers and Queen Latifah, A Tribe Called Quest were part of Native Tongues, a hip-hop collective modeled on Afrika Bambaataa’s Zulu Nation. On their third LP they balanced socio-political consciousness with light ditties about getting a milkshake underpinned by kickin’ jazz-funk grooves. It reached Number One on the Billboard R&B/Hip Hop charts and remains A Tribe Called Quest’s most commercially successful effort. Read more about the album here.
