We are delighted to be launching Classic Album Sundays at our brand new home Portsmouth & Southsea’s Pie & Vinyl on Sunday 14th October to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Sonic Youth’s Daydream Nation for National Album Day with special guests
Jonny Callender and Jim Shaw (Cranes) and Adi Vines (Swervedriver) discussing their personal experiences with Sonic Youth and what the album means to them.
The event will also feature a world class audiophile hi-fi supplied by Audio T Portsmouth.
Limited tickets available from 9am on Wednesday 26th September here which includes a Sonic Youth Themed Pie (Meat and Vegan).
The idea of Pie & Vinyl is simple, combining their love and passion for music with one of England’s favourite old fashioned comfort foods in a stylish cosy location in Castle road, Southsea. Pie & Vinyl invite all of our brothers and sisters who currently inhabit this historically significant, fashionably vibrant culturally exciting city, to explore, enjoy and revel in this unique experience.
Taking inspiration from the more extreme ends of guitar music, namely early-hardcore, dissonant no-wave, and a performance ethic that saw nothing wrong with playing the same note of feedback for half an hour, Sonic Youth were the Velvet Underground for the materialistic 1980s. Whilst Pixies still tried to operate within the structure of rock and roll, Sonic Youth cast aside any convention.
Sonic Youth have been praised for having “redefined what rock guitar could do” using a wide variety of unorthodox guitar tunings and preparing guitars with objects like drum sticks and screwdrivers to alter the instruments’ timbre. The band is considered to be a pivotal influence on the alternative and indie rock movements.
Join us to experience this album as never before.
