Kathy Sledge joins Classic Album Sundays founder Colleen ‘Cosmo’ Murphy on Thursday 9th July 8pm BST for a one-off Zoom event discussing the overwhelming impact of music during isolation. Tickets can be purchased for £10 here. We will be donating 50% of revenue to Kathy’s choice of charity Everybody Eats Philly.
In this special event, she will discuss the albums that have been giving her solace, comfort, happiness and inspiration, so expect to be turned on to some great new music. We will also ‘open up the floor’ to questions from our attendees at the end of the session.
Everybody Eats Philly was set up in the wake of protests and looting that occurred in the city of Philadelphia after the murder of George Floyd. Chef Stephanie Willis saw the anger and frustration of the protestors and asked herself “what can we do?” On Instagram she tagged Cooks for the Culture, a group of Black Philly chefs, to brainstorm how they could help their community.
Less than three days later, Willis was joined by Willis was joined by chefs Elijah Milligan, Kurt Evans, and Aziza Young and the group held the first Everybody Eats event, a lunchbox and essentials drive complete with a dj and enough sandwiches, produce, dry goods, feminine hygiene products, toilet paper, paper towels, toothbrushes and more to help 600 west Philly residents. As Young told Vogue Magazine “Seeing the community come together and talking to people there, hearing from the OGs, hearing their stories, seeing their smiles, them saying thank you, you know you’re doing good by your ancestors and you’re doing good by family,” she adds. “It melts your heart.”
Time and Date: Thursday 9th July 8pm – 9:30pm BST
