After three sold out events with Ned Doheny, The Blackbyrds’ Keith Killgo and Heaven 17’s Martyn Ware, Classic Album Sundays and founder Colleen ‘Cosmo’ Murphy return to the KEF Music Gallery on Wednesday, the 11th December to explore the album Afro-Harping by Dorothy Ashby. Colleen will be joined by harpist Alina Bzhezhinska who is also a massive fan of Ashby’s having covered Ashby’s iconic ‘Soul Vibrations’ with her own HipHarpCollective.

Dorothy Ashby and her 1968 album Afro-Harping pioneered the jazz harp. It was also hugely sought after by hip hop producers due to its funky rhythms and recently Verve Records have reissued this classic album on vinyl.

After the interview Afro-Harping will be played in its entirety on vinyl on an audiophile sound system featuring KEF loudspeakers so that listeners can hear new details and nuances in the recording. The evening will conclude with a Q&A during which attendees will have the opportunity to ask Alina Bzhezhinska their own questions. Join us to experience Afro-Harping in a way you never have before.
