This year marks the 40th anniversary of British jazz-funk-pop band Level 42’s international breakthrough album World Machine. On Thursday, the 15th May, Classic Album Sundays founder Colleen ‘Cosmo’ Murphy will be joined by founding bandmembers Mike Lindup and Phil Gould to explore Level 42’s sixth studio album. The event will take place at the KEF Music Gallery. Tickets are free but limited and must be reserved in advance.
World Machine is the album in which Level 42 transitioned from a straight up jazz-funk outfit into a funky pop band and reached number 3 on the UK Album Charts. The album featured a few singles including their US Top Ten hit ‘Something About You’, the ballad ‘Leaving Now’ and the funky World Machine which was remixed by Shep Pettibone and became a dancefloor classic. Former Classic Album Sundays guest Wally Badarou also co-wrote and played on the album.
After the interview, World Machine will be played in its entirety on vinyl on an audiophile sound system featuring KEF loudspeakers so that listeners can hear new details and nuances in the recording. And guests will also be given the opportunity to ask Lindup and Gould their own questions during a Q&A after the playback. The band will be celebrating the 40th Anniversary of the World Machine album with a UK and European tour that kicks off on Sept 18th and runs until the 17th November so this event will give fans an exclusive insight into the creation of this album and it’s legacy.
