In collaboration with the Icelandic embassy in Norway Classic Album Sundays prepares a double album presentation in Oslo with former Sigur Rós multi instrumentalist Kjartan “Kjarri” Sveinsson and María Huld Markan Sigfúsdóttir of Amiina joining us all night long when Sigur Rós’ haunting Long Player ‘( )’, released on FatCat in 2002, and also our Album of the Month, Björks third studio recording ‘Homogenic’ (One Little Indian, 1997) are both given a full length play on Dr. Feickerts outstanding Blackbird turntable.
The couple are flying in from Reykjavík for the occation and will, together with local host Kent Horne, also be joined by Tore Størvold, PhD student at the Department of Musicology at the University of Oslo. Størvold explores the relationship between music, nature and identity in contemporary Iceland. His research includes interpretations on how different conceptions of nature and landscape appear in music across genres. Furthermore, following up on these abstract fields we’ll be interested in trying to grasp what music can tell us of how we relate to our physical environment, especially in an age where climate change and environmental debate makes such questions unavoidable.
As always, we’ll be thoroughly treated by the tender audiophile love from Duet Audio who will be installing the stunning sound system we’ll be listening to tonight.
