First issued in New Zealand on Kog Transmissions then picked up by Universal Jazz UK, the record bridges 70s jazz-fusion, jungle, hip hop, house, and Afro-Cuban rhythms. With Fender Rhodes, synths, and an MPC2000 at the core, Mark blended live musicianship with beat-driven sensibilities that felt ahead of their time. The album grew out of a formative year in 1998 when a 23-year-old Mark traveled from San Francisco to Havana, London, Tokyo and New York, absorbing scenes and sounds while collaborating with mentors and peers. Six Degrees became a sonic diary of that journey and a timeless statement of creative exploration. Twenty five years on, the music still resonates.
To mark the anniversary, Be With Records has reissued the album on vinyl in 2025. Classic Album Sundays celebrates the legacy of Six Degrees with an intimate deep listening session and conversation about the album’s origins and its lasting influence.
