For October’s album of the month we are featuring one of the most popular albums from the early noughts, at the time of it’s release it felt as though The Strokes become overnight sensations and established themselves as the ‘it’ band of the moment, a modern Velvet Underground with splashes of seventies punk rock.
On Is This It The Strokes strived to capture a simple rock sound that was not significantly enhanced in the studio. Building on the work of their 2001 extended play, The Modern Age, the band members molded compositions largely through live takes during the recording sessions, while songwriter Julian Casablancas continued to detail the lives and relationships of urban youth.
