‘L.A. Woman’ was the final Doors album to feature Jim Morrison and reaffirmed the groups’s love of blues based rock music. Coming off the back of some serious turmoil for the band, they had been blacklisted from many radio stations and the gigs were drying up (largely due to Jim Morrison’s controversial trial for indecent exposure), ‘L.A. Woman’ would feature some of the bands most memorable music.
Sounding largely stripped back the album possesses a distinctive sound that is unmistakable as The Doors, guitarist Robbie Krieger and keyboard player Ray Manzarek sound in perfect harmony with one another allowing Morrison the space to add his trademark rough and ready vocals over the top.
‘L.A. Woman’ had been released for barely three months when Jim Morrison died in a Paris bathtub in the summer of 1971 and acted as a fitting swan song for one of the most important rock bands not only of their time, but of all time. Read more about the album here.
