“Hunky Dory” is the record that truly signified David Bowie’s command of the album format. He had had a hit with the single “Space Oddity” and his third LP “The Man Who Sold the World” featured many great moments, however, it is really “Hunky Dory” that cemented Bowie’s position as a major pop player.

It is one of Colleen ‘Cosmo’ Murphy’s favourite Bowie albums (there are about ten of them ;)) and she has recently been hanging out with producer Ken Scott who has told her some great stories. Scott engineered “The Man Who Sold the World” and at the time thought Bowie was good but probably wasn’t going to go anywhere. When Bowie asked him to co-produce “Hunky Dory” and presented his new batch of songs, Scott was duly impressed and realised what a great songwriter Bowie had become. Colleen has more stories up her sleeve, too.

Join us to first listen to music that either inspired or was relevant to this LP such as T Rex, Roxy Music and Syd Barrett followed by the story behind the making of the album.  Then the lights go down, the volume goes up and we play the album from beginning to end on vinyl on our audiophile hi-fi. Listening guidelines apply.
