Album of the Month: The Stone Roses “The Stone Roses”

Legend has it The Stone Roses secured their first big gig supporting Pete Townsend when Ian Brown sent a charming note to the promoter: ‘I’m surrounded by skagheads. I wanna smash ‘em. Can you give us a show?’

Album Suggestions from October and November 2011

I wonder if Lou Reed ever anticipated he would be on an album list alongside Abba? I would love to see his face if he found out.

Album Suggestions from September 2011

You will find Todd Rundgren next to The Sex Pistols (that does make me giggle) and Duke Ellington next to Queens of the Stone Age (“Songs for the Deaf” on a hi-fi? Why not?).

Album Suggestions from Camp Bestival

In the meantime, check out this list of albums suggested by the Camp Bestival attendees. It has some of the usual greats along with a lot of new suggestions (from The Congos to The Dead Kennedys). Another great read…

Album Suggestions from July 2011

Maybe the most versatile suggestion list from the past month’s session - from pop to soul to metal to rock to new wave to new age to electronic to house and even our first alt country suggestion (Flying Burrito Brothers - yeah!).

Tim Rushent on Martin Rushent

“Music is the closest thing we have to real magic. Sometimes it comes easy … sometimes it takes a little bit more time and a lot more patience. Both these albums were a labour of love for Dad."

Album Suggestions from June 2011

Wow - some nice jazz suggestions here. Love the Pat Metheny and it has to be said that anything on the ECM label is like sonic nirvana! He and Lyle Mays have a lot of great albums but this one is truly special.

Album Suggestions from May 2011

An interesting read spanning the scope of the “credibil-o-meter” from Joni Mitchell at one obvious end to Girls Aloud on the other.

Album of the Month: Grace Jones “Nightclubbing”

This is definitely my favourite Grace Jones album as not only does it include the fantastic Flash and the Pan and Iggy Pop covers but it also features my favourite ever Grace Jones song, “I’ve Done It Again”, which I believe is about reincarnation.
